Oral calcium, magnesium and vitamin D3 supplement for use
around calving in fresh dairy cows.
Active Ingredients (per 500 mL): calcium chloride dihydrate 137.5 g, calcium propionate 62.5 g (providing 50 g elemental calcium), magnesium sulphate heptahydrate 37.5 g, vitamin D3 10,400 IU.
Dosage and administration: Bottle drench 1 bottle (500 mL) 6-8 hours pre-calving, one at calving and one 12 hours later. SELEKT Calcivit+ is to be administered from the bottle in which it is presented, designed for use as a drenching applicator. No other applicator is required or should be used. The drenching bottle should be discarded after it has been used.
To give SELEKT Calcivit+: If you are right-handed, stand on the right-hand side of the animal’s head. Pass your left hand over the cow’s face and insert your fingers into the diastema (the space between the incisor and molar teeth) on the cow’s left side. Apply gentle pressure to the hard palate medial to the diastema to open the cow’s mouth. Insert the nozzle of the bottle into the diastema on the right side of the cow and pass it into the cow’s mouth until two thirds of the nozzle are inside the mouth. Raise the cow’s head gently with the left hand, and with the right hand raise the base of the bottle so as to pour its contents into the back of the cow’s mouth, starting slowly to stimulate the swallowing reflex and proceeding at a rate that allows the cow easily to swallow the full contents of the bottle. Ensure the cow has access to fresh water at all times. Look for signs of difficulty in breathing for 5 minutes after administering the drench.
Cautions: Do not use excessive force when administering to the animal. Do not administer to animals lying down or animals without a normal swallowing reflex. Animals should be properly restrained during drenching. When using a drenching applicator, care should be taken to not damage the mouth or pharynx. This VHP may not be incorporated into a mixed feed
